Obituary for Susan Neary

Susan Neary, 79, of Brick, NJ, passed away on February 10, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She fought courageously after her diagnosis of uterine cancer in September 2020. She made the decision to fight and with the help of Memorial Sloan Kettering, she was able to share in many happy memories. Susan lived in NYC for over 40 years. She loved NYC and enjoyed sharing the sights and sounds of the city with her family and friends. Susan shared her beautiful apartment in the upper eastside with so many family and friends, almost impossible to list. She lived in San Francisco for two years when she was in her twenties. Susan was a world traveler and shared her memories of her trips with everyone.

Susan worked as an executive assistant at Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, NYC and retired in 2011. Prior to that she had worked as an executive secretary for many firms such as, McGraw Hill, Bank of America, Paine Webber, and AT&T to name a few.

Susan was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth Neary, two sisters Margaret Spiro, and Elizabeth O’Rourke, and a brother-in-law Timothy Ryan. She is survived by a loving sister Maryellen Ryan; two brothers-in-law Chris Spiro and Joseph O’Rourke. Susan was the cherished aunt to Suzie Spiro, Katie Spiro, Tom Spiro, KC Spiro and his wife Jodi, Tim Spiro and his wife Barbara, Jill (Ryan) Woolfenden and her husband Mike, Joseph and Lindsey O’Rourke, Liam O’Rourke, Maggie Spiro, Ozzie Spiro, Timmy Woolfenden, Mae Woolfenden, Nolan O’Rourke, and Brooke O’Rourke. Susan will be fondly remembered by many cousins and friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Church of St Martha, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742. Burial will be private at a later date in her family plot in Gate of Heaven, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made by going online to www.giving.mskcc.org.
