Russell D. Stewart, formerly of Brielle, 92 passed away peacefully March 20, 2023 at Preferred Care Nursing Home, Old Bridge, New Jersey. Born in Princeton, (Lyles Station) Indiana, he later moved to Vincennes, Indiana. Russell graduated from Vincennes High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1949. He served in the following areas while enlisted in the Air Force - Texas, Wyoming, California, Japan Occupation, Long Island, NY, and Oahu, Hawaii. He served in the Korean War from 1950-1952; flew monthly missions to Vietnam while stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1967-69, and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after more than 20 years of service to our country. After retiring from the USAF, he was employed as the head of Safety & Security at Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ, retiring in 1984. Russell was part of the management team that established the J&J Baby Products plant in Puerto Rico in the mid-70’s.
Over his lifetime, he was a Cubmaster in Brielle, NJ; Scout Master in Scott AFB, Illinois and Little League coach in Brielle. He was formerly President of the Brielle Men’s Club, a Member of the Brielle Planning Board and served as Councilman in Brielle from 1975-1982. He was an avid golfer and former member of McGuire AFB Golf Course

He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Audrey C. Stewart in 2004, his parents, John Samuel Stewart and Leota Bell Nolcox Burns; his sister, Marietta Harvey and granddaughter, Audrey L. Stewart. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte Morris and Rev. William Morris, his children, Dale R. Stewart (Ethel), Waxhaw, NC; Rhonda C. Tolbert (Michael), Novi, MI; Michael A. Stewart (Marisol), Jackson, NJ; Sharon L. Stewart, Old Bridge, NJ and Phillip K. Stewart, McAllen, TX; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12pm-1pm Saturday, June 3, 2023 followed by a memorial service at 1pm at Orender Home for Family the Rev. William H. Morris officiating. Commital services will follow at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brielle First Aid Squad.
