Obituary for Penny Sullivan (Clinch)

Penny Lynn Sullivan, 75, of Manchester, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023. Penny was born in Neptune on July 16, 1947 to Arthur (Bud) and Marion Clinch and grew up in the High View Park section of Wall Township, NJ. Her childhood home backed up to the railroad and she often reminisced about watching the trains pass as a girl before it was converted to the bike path.

Penny was married to Michael F. Sullivan on October 8, 1966, and was happily married for 53 years before he passed on April 2, 2020. She lived in Brielle for 31 years, across the street from the Brielle Fire Company, where she volunteered, alongside her husband. After raising their two sons, they moved to Leisure Knoll in Manchester, NJ where Penny enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, baking, and caring for the neighborhood cats.

Penny was an avid and talented crocheter. One of her favorite things to do was to gather on Monday afternoons for weekly “Stitch and Bitch” meetings to crochet with her friends. For those lucky enough to know and love Penny, at least one of her beautiful blankets adorn a couch or bed.

Not a day went by where Penny, affectionately known as Nammy by her grandchildren, didn't talk about how much her children, grandchildren and family meant to her. Family was her most important achievement in life and that included her beloved pug, Jack.

In the words of Penny, “Thank you everybody and I’ll see you all soon because, as per Kelly, I’m just on vacation. Love you all.”

Penny is survived by her two sons, Michael of Pineland, SC; and Brian and his wife, Allison and her grandchildren Kelly and Cody; all of Point Pleasant, NJ; her siblings, Pam D’Ambosia of Hilton Head Island, SC; and Bud Clinch of Helena, Montana. She is predeceased by her husband, Michael F. Sullivan.

The Sullivan family, at the request of Penny, will have a private burial. Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Rd, Manasquan, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animal Protection League of New Jersey (APLNJ) at PO Box 186, Glen Gardner, NJ 08826. Your donation will help protect feral cats like the ones who visited Penny every day at her back door. To learn more about this non-profit visit www.aplnj.org/tnr.
