Obituary for Madelyn E Slocum
Madelyn E. (nee Gardner) Slocum, 94, peacefully came to rest on May 6, 2023. Born in Neptune NJ in 1928 predeceased by her teenage sweetheart Edward Slocum who she was married to for 73 years.
Mother of 5 children, Judith Rutledge Holmdel, NJ, Vicki Capaci Wall NJ, Donald Slocum Middletown NJ, Diane Mazza Point Pleasant NJ, Wayne Slocum Wall NJ 11 Grandchildren 8 Great Grandchildren, and her brother Kenneth Gardner Manchester NJ. Madelyn was also predeceased by her sister Grace Boyd.
Her home, her family, and children were her life. Her doors were always open to anyone that needed her care and not a stray animal in her sight went uncared for.
In their early days Madelyn and Ed loved to travel the country by car and enjoyed their local fishing and boating adventures on their boats that received her tender care when not in the water. She loved to garden in her award-winning yard and brought beauty to the entire neighborhood with her green thumb.
She loved to play cards and travel to Atlantic City to take on her favorite slot machine for hours on end. The digital age did not escape her as she never backed down to a challenge from a grandchild in video games.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Monmouth Memorial Park Cemetery, Tinton Falls, NJ, on Wednesday May 10, 2023 @ 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Popcorn Park Zoo 124 Evergreen Avenue Newark, NJ 07114, or the American Cancer Society, 2310 Route 34 Suite 1D Manasquan, NJ 08736.
