Obituary for Lois Gray (Wyckoff)

Lois A. Gray, 81 of Manasquan, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Point Pleasant on Christmas Eve, 1940 to Esther and Ernie Wyckoff. She grew up with her brother Tom in Manasquan, NJ where she attended Manasquan High School. It was there that Lois took up twirling and became head Majorette. She developed cherished friendships that would last her a lifetime. This is also where she met her soon to be husband, John Gray. Shortly after they became married, Lois and John moved into her childhood home where they raised a family of their own. They became parents to two daughters, Sharon and Marge, and a son John.

Together with her husband, Lois developed a strong love of nature. They purchased 62 acres in Oakfield, Maine and built a beautiful log home. The family has been spending time there every year since. Lois enjoyed going for walks, gardening, 4-wheeling with friends and family, and just experiencing nature. 5 o’clock happy hour became routine, and everyone was happy to join in.

Cats always seemed to find their way to the Gray home and never leave. Maine was no exception and when Day’ze showed up in camp one day, she became a beloved member of the family and brought immense joy to both Lois and John. She joined Lois on every trip to Maine from then on because she enjoyed being there as much as her humans.
While at home, Lois loved to spend time outside or in the sunroom where she enjoyed watching birds, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, deer, and even the occasional fox. During her downtime she enjoyed relaxing in the sunroom with Day’ze while reading, doing sudoku puzzles, cross stitch. And watching NASCAR. Happy hour continued every day at 5 o’clock sharp!

Lois always cherished the relationships she had with the people in her life, whether it be friends or family. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones, and everyone loved being with her. Sunday trips to the parks, 4-wheeler rides, game nights, shopping, happy hours, or even a shared meal were just some of the things that Lois shared with the people she loved. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was loved by everyone and will be forever in the hearts of her loved ones.

Lois is survived by her devoted children, Sharon and her husband Jim, Marge, and John and his wife Cathy. She was the cherished grandmother of Kristin, Kevin, Caity, Marcus, Jake, and Danny, as well as her great granddaughters Paige and Charlotte. Lois will be missed by many other cherished extended family members.
