Obituary for Joan Elizabeth Alwill (Johnson)

Neptune City resident, Joan Elizabeth Johnson Alwill, died peacefully on October 3, 2022 at Coral Harbor Rehabilitation Center in Neptune City. She was 83 years old.

Joan was born in Long Branch, NJ. She graduated from Shark River Hills School and attended the Monmouth Workshop, Long Branch. Joan was employed at the MediCenter of America, Neptune City, for 35 years. After her retirement in 2005, she volunteered there, helping with Monday morning bingo. Joan faithfully attended West Grove Methodist Church, Neptune, where she sang in the choir and sometimes served as a greeter. Joan was a member of Arc of Monmouth and Circle of Friends and with these groups she was involved in community service and also took many nice trips. Joan enjoyed long walks, bingo, puzzles, luncheons, and various activities offered at the HUD facility in Neptune City, where she had lived for many years. Joan enjoyed and was touched by all those special people with whom she came in contact each day. Joan always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Anthony Alwill, her father Walter Johnson and her mother Dorothy Johnson Morrissey and her stepfather, Harold Morrissey. She is survived by her stepmother Josephine Johnson, Bradenton, FL; her brothers Lawrence Johnson and wife Linda, Neptune, NJ and William Johnson and wife Elaine, Stockton, NJ; her stepsisters Nancy Rhine, Bradenton, FL and Caroline Dunn and husband Stephen, Brick, NJ; Morrissey half-brothers and sister; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arc of Monmouth, 1158 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724; specifically the Community Support Workers/Independent Living Program.
