Obituary for Edwin C Ahlers

Edwin Charles Ahlers, 77, of Wall Township passed away peacefully on Sunday April 30, 2023, after a long and brave fight with his illness. Ed was born in Watertown, South Dakota. After graduating Oldham High School in 1966, Ed joined the US Army. He served a tour in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. Ed served as commander of the American Legion Post 346, Neptune, NJ. He was the first Vietnam veteran member to hold this position at Post 346. After working as a commercial roofer for 23 years, Ed joined the Wall Township Public Works, where he worked for 19 years. After retirement he continued to work part-time at the Wall Township recycling center, as he loved meeting and talking to all the interesting people within the local community. In his spare time, Ed loved fishing, gardening, and taking camping trips with his family. Neighbors would frequently see him shining up his truck, which he loved driving along the beachfront early in the morning.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Violet and Ralph Ahlers, stepfather Henry Dirksen and his brother Allen Ahlers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy (nee Pettit) Ahlers, his son Jeff Ahlers and his wife Tricia, daughters Lisa Hill and her husband Chris, and youngest daughter Katie. Ed was the cherished grandfather of Ashley Preto, Emma, Molly, Jeffrey Ahlers, as well as Taylor and Ryan Hill. He also leaves behind his two great grandchildren, Ava and Hailey, and his brothers Ron and Bob Ahlers, and sister Linda Hollingsworth.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday May 8, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Orender Family Home for Funeral 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 9, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Belmar, 600 Ninth Avenue Belmar, NJ 07719. Interment to follow at Brig. Gen William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, North Hanover at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St Jude Childrens Research PO Box 1000 Dept 142 Memphis, TN 38101.
