Obituary for Dr. Carl Romano Lepis

Carl Romano Lepis, born June 9, 1938 (Jersey City) died peacefully at home on February 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born to parents Dr. Alphonse Lepis and his wife, Leitha in Jersey City. He was educated at St. Peter’s preparatory and graduated with his degree from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. He was a proud graduate of the University of Bologna Medical School in Italy and completed his residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He began his practice in the 1970s with Dr. Richard W. Gosling in Asbury Park where he continued to deliver babies and give exemplary care to thousands of women throughout his career before retiring in 2020. It has been estimated that he delivered 16,000 babies throughout his career. He enjoyed his life; fishing, hunting and trips to Alaska with his sons. He was a great conversationalist and read voraciously. His greatest love and happiness in life with his adored family and patient care. Every day was another chance to love and laugh with each of his children and grandchildren. Friendships and family love was his main life’s accomplishment.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Leitha Lynn Lepis, his parents, and his beloved friends, the Mazzarella’s. He is survived by his heartbroken wife of 40 years, Joanne Deveney Lepis. He leaves behind his beloved children and grandchildren; Carl Lepis Jr., his sons, Carl Lepis III and Matthew Lepis. Dr. Michael Lepis, his wife Kerri Ann, and their children Ariella, Molly, Brynley, Brielle and Michael Jr., Joseph Lepis, Carla Ann Lepis Golightly, husband Joseph and their children Joseph and Bella, and Dr Grace Ann Lepis and husband, Michael Kowal. A step- daughter, Shannon Dangler as well as his sister, Linda Kurfehs and husband Harold, his brother Robert and wife Angela and his mother in law, Ann Devaney and her family as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 7-9 pm and Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ 08736. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 2, 2023, 10:30 am at St Catharine Church, Spring Lake, NJ. Interment to follow at St Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt.
