Obituary for Nga "Ann" Ngoc Thi Bui

Nga "Ann" Ngoc Thi Bui
Brielle, NJ—Nga Ngoc Thi Bui, also known by many as “Ann,” passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018, following a bout with cancer. She was surrounded by many family members and friends who were steadfast in honoring a woman whose life touched so many.
Her bright smile, kind and generous nature and intense sense of loyalty and passion for living and loving others resonated in the hearts of those who knew her and will continue to do so in her memory.
A native of Vietnam who fled her homeland with her family in 1975 in search for a better life in the great United States of America. Her strong determination, deep faith and unwavering commitment carried her through building a beautiful life for her and her family in Monmouth County.
Ann lived in Lincroft, NJ, until 1980 before moving to Brielle in a pink house that was filled with photos, memories and the sweet aroma of home-cooked meals. She opened up her first restaurant on Ocean Avenue in Belmar in 1976 called The Saigon Room and then built a successful business in Peddler’s Village in Wall, NJ, where she ran an asian fusion restaurant called Gourmet Snacks International for many years.
Ann relished cooking for family and friends, spirituality and taking care of the children in her family generation after generation. But perhaps paramount in Ann's life was her deep love of being a steady, ever-present and supporting mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was never too tired or busy to send a care package of spring rolls and fried rice, make someone laugh or reach out a helping hand to someone who needed it, nor was she afraid to speak her mind with wide eyes if she saw the need. But her heart was pure and that showed on her beautiful face that lit up every time at the sight of her daughter, Thoa also known as “Jennifer”, and granddaughter, Hoa, who lived with her and loved her deeply.
The Buddha once said, “Radiate boundless love towards the entire world — above, below, and across — unhindered, without ill will, without enmity.” Ann consistently lived her life this way.
