Obituary for Madelyn E. Hamilton

Madelyn Eugenia (Jean) Hamilton of Spring Lake, New Jersey, passed away on January 12, 2018 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Lester A. Hamilton, Sr. and Madelyn Hamilton, born on June 6, 1925 in Plainfield, New Jersey, spent her childhood years in that town, and later in nearby North Plainfield. Growing up in the early part of the 20th century Jean was an early adapter of such ideas as education for women and a career. Although limited in her choice of jobs, she commuted to Manhattan for many years for her work in the insurance and retail industries. Jean was also a long time member of the Junior Women’s Club, active in community service, and in retirement enjoyed her flowering plants, friends and family. Jean was predeceased by her sisters, Mabel (Robinson) and Grace (Lammers), and brother Lester A. Hamilton, Jr. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, and great- and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom remember her with fondness and love. A memorial service in celebration of Jean’s life will be held in the Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan.
